Maria Falcone

Phd candidate in Criminal Law

Born in Salerno in 1999, in October 2022 she graduated cum laude in Law from Bocconi University in Milan, defending a thesis in Criminal Law entitled “The Sanctioning System, Alternatives to Imprisonment, and the Enforcement of Sentences for Vulnerable Individuals: Evolution, Practice, and Critical Issues”, supervised by Professor Melissa Miedico.

During her university studies, she gained experience through involvement in student associations and academic editorial work, as well as by completing an internship at the Juvenile Court of Milan (GIP/GUP Section) and participating in the Bocconi Legal Clinics, “Rights in Prison”, with which she continues to collaborate.

After graduating, she attended several training courses and the Postgraduate School for Legal Professions at the University of Pavia, where she completed a judicial internship at the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) of Lombardy in Milan.

Since October 2023, she has been a PhD candidate in Criminal Law at the Department of Legal Sciences “C. Beccaria” of the University of Milan (supervisors: Professor Gian Luigi Gatta and Professor Maria Chiara Ubiali), where she conducts research and provides teaching assistance, including for the Criminal Justice Legal Clinic class. As part of her doctoral program, she spent a research period as a visiting scholar at Cornell Law School.

She also collaborates with the Chair of Criminal Law at Bocconi University.

In May 2025, she was admitted to the Italian Bar.
