University of Tuscia
From 29 to 31 May 2024, the ADIM-IntoME Migration Conference 2024 “Immigration and Public Powers” took place in Viterbo.
The Criminal Justice Legal Clinic attended the event with a panel entitled “Health protection within the Pre-removal centres in the Consolidated Immigration Act (so-called T.U.I.), the Lamorgese Directive and the practices of Milan area”. The panel dealt with the issue of health protection within the “Centri per la permanenza e il rimpatrio (so-called C.P.R.)”, focusing on the assessment of necessary health conditions for living in restricted environment.
The discussion developed on three levels of analysis:
- firstly, it examined the health protection provisions contained in the T.U.I. and the ministerial regulations that have implemented it (Lamorgese Directive);
- secondly, it investigated the acts of implementation of the Lamorgese Directive adopted in Milan, such as memoranda of understanding, agreements, conventions and other acts signed by actors involved.
- finally, it presented the first outcomes of a survey carried out through direct interaction with the health workers in charge of health conditions assessment, with the aim of evaluating the current practices regarding health protection and health conditions assessment for migrants who are detained in the C.P.R. of Milan.
Dr. Cecilia Pagella, Maria Falcone and Cecilia Pasini represented the Clinic at the event.
