Please find attached an open letter to the Department of Prison Administration (DAP) written by a group of university professors in support of Ristretti Orizzonti. The letter expresses concern about the contents of a memorandum issued on 27 February by the Director General of the Directorate General of Prisoners and Treatment, which is also attached. The memorandum addresses undefined issues relating to the management of high security units and emphasises, inter alia, the absolute necessity of mandatory solitary confinement for high security inmates and the importance of supporting prison staff's efforts to enforce cell lockdowns in high security units.

The letter highlights the valuable work carried out by Ristretti Orizzonti and the potential negative impact this memorandum could have on its activities. It calls on the DAP to urgently reconsider its recent decisions in accordance with constitutional principles.
