The reply of the Italian Association of Criminal Law Professors to the “Security Package” bill
On 3rd October 2024, the Board of the Italian Association of Criminal Law Professors published a document in which it expresses its critical opinion on some of the contents of the bill, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies, concerning “Disposizioni in materia di sicurezza pubblica, di tutela del personale in servizio, nonché di vittime dell’usura e di ordinamento penitenziario”.
We publish attached the document in its full version, but we can anticipate the concerns expressed by the Association with regard to some criminal policy choices that seem to mark a significant expansion of the use of criminal law, in violation of the principles of proportionality and subsidiarity, and in an essentially symbolic-communicative mode.
