Clinical Legal Education: the creation of knowledge through transformative experience

University of Amsterdam

From 22 to 24 July 2024, the 10th European Conference of Legal Clinics, entitled “Clinical Legal Education: the creation of knowledge through transformative experience” and organised by ENCLE, took place in Amsterdam.

The Criminal Justice Legal Clinic attended the event with a panel entitled “Beyond our University: the impact of clinical legal education on local community?”. The conference was an opportunity to present our Clinic’s activities and the impact they have on the community to an international audience. In particular, we discussed

  1. the challenges we face in running the Legal Desk for Foreign Prisoners at San Vittore Prison;
  2. the success achieved, in cooperation with the Garante delle persone detenute e privati della libertà personale and the Ordinary Court of Milan, in providing a more reasonable regulation of the authorisation regime of telephone calls for persons imprisoned under a pre-trial order;
  3. the research activity we are conducting on the theme of health protection within the Centres for Stay and Repatriation, which we had already had the opportunity to discuss at the ADIM-IntoME Migration Conference 2024 “Immigration and Public Powers”.

Gaia Filocamo, Candida Mistrorigo, Martina Elisabetta Pasquin and Maria Falcone represented the Clinic at the event.
